2022–2023 Ford Maverick Has Multiple Recalls

When a manufacturer discovers that their product has a defect that can potentially harm consumers who use the product normally, they issue a recall. When a recall is issued, the manufacturer is both warning the general public that there is a danger associated with the product and providing a way to correct the danger. Depending on the defect, under the California Lemon Law a manufacturer may be required to offer to replace your vehicle with another equivalent vehicle, refund you the monies you paid into your vehicle and pay it off, or offer you cash compensation.
Typically, manufacturer recalls are relatively rare. Most products are extensively tested before they are released to the market. It is usually less expensive for a manufacturer to do additional testing and correct defects before releasing a product than to recall a product and correct the problem later.
However, there are exceptions, like the 2022 and 2023 Ford Maverick models. These models have been recalled several times. If you own a 2022 or 2023 Ford Maverick, you should be aware of the following recalls.
November 2023 Emissions Recall
Ford issued recall 23E07, affecting 2022 and 2023 Ford Mavericks. This recall was caused by a malfunctioning heating element in the truck’s emission control sensors. This malfunction was causing emissions to be released at incorrect levels. Thankfully, this Ford recall was easily solved with a software update to the powertrain control module.
December 2023 Emissions Recall
Just a month after issuing recall 23E07, Ford issued recall 23E09 for a separate emission issue. An entirely different software error was causing a situation similar to the one that instigated the previous recall. In this case, though, the emissions were improperly calibrated only when the truck was driven at maximum speed or the maximum speed set by the MyKey function. Since the Ford Maverick has a maximum speed of 110 miles per hour, this problem was unlikely to affect most drivers. However, the fix was just another simple software update.
Few Maverick owners are likely to be affected by this defect. However, since the solution is easy, it is worth resolving.
Engine Recalls
Ford issued recalls in 2022 and 2023 for engine failures. Recalls 22S47 and 23S27 involved similar issues. The 2.5L HEV/PHEV engines in these vehicles can fail when the oil pan or engine block experiences breaches. When these failures occur, engine oil or fuel vapor can accumulate under the hood of the vehicle, resulting in engine components catching on fire and melting.
Local Ford dealerships know how to repair this problem and will resolve it if you bring your vehicle in for repairs. However, if you suffered harm from this defect before becoming aware of the situation, you should contact our lemon law attorneys today.

Tail Light Recall
Computer errors are the culprit for many of the recalls issued by Ford for the Maverick. An example of this issue is the tail light recall, affecting the 2022, 2023, and 2024 models of this vehicle.
Due to a programming error, the computer might falsely detect how much current is traveling to the tail lights. When that happens, the lamps stay dark, even when they should turn on. While there are no known situations where this has caused an accident, the malfunction creates a dangerous situation. Notification letters were mailed out to all Maverick owners starting on May 20, 2024, letting them know that Ford dealerships can provide a software update to resolve the problem.
Turn Signal Recall
One of the first recalls issued in 2024 was recall 23C41, which was for yet another computer problem. In this case, the computer was failing to detect outages in the rear turn signal bulbs of some Mavericks. Because the computer wasn’t detecting the outage, the driver wasn’t receiving a dashboard notification, which increased the likelihood that a driver would operate their vehicle without working turn signals. A fix has been created for this defect and is available at Ford dealerships.
Instrument Panel Recall
Yet another defect is associated with the Maverick instrument panel. However, this issue could be quite severe for some drivers. This recall is associated with defects that cause the panel to fail to illuminate warning lights, even when problems are detected. The warning lights affected include the check engine light and the vehicle speed light.
Since the check engine light is associated with some of the most serious problems that a vehicle can experience, this can potentially put drivers at a major risk of getting into an accident. If you haven’t had this defect corrected, you should contact your local dealership as soon as possible.
