Honda Has 3 Different Recalls in November
- October 31, 2024
- Categories: Lemon Law
Honda has had a rough year in terms of recalls. In November alone, it was required to recall hundreds of thousands of vehicles over issues like a loose ball bearing in the gearbox assembly in 2023-2024 Honda Pilots. That is just one of three different issues that forced a recall in November.
If you own a vehicle that was affected in some way by one of these recalls, you may be eligible to receive compensation. Experienced lawyers at Neale & Fhima APC can help you determine your legal options and the value of your case, especially if you or a loved one was hurt by a defective Honda product. Before contacting us, though, the following is what you should know about these recalls and how they affect Honda owners.
What Was Recalled?
Is Your Vehicle Safe?
There were three Honda recalls in November, for three different problems. If you own a vehicle affected by any of these recalls, you should have been notified. However, if you weren’t notified, this information will help you determine whether you own a vehicle that was affected.
2023-2024 Honda Pilot Loose Ball Bearing
There was a manufacturing error in the gearbox assembly of 2023-2024 Honda Pilots. This problem originated with the assembly process of these vehicles. Honda reworked some of the gearboxes before releasing the vehicles to the public. Unfortunately, some ball bearings were misplaced during the rework in the transmission. That unsecured ball bearing could potentially fall into the gap of a rotating part in the vehicle, resulting in the vehicle’s losing steering. If your vehicle loses steering while traveling at any meaningful speed, you are almost certain to get into a car accident.
Connecting Rod in Some Acuras
The largest of the three recalls involved a manufacturing error on the connecting rod bearing in the engine in multiple models, including some Acuras. The affected Honda models were:
- 2016-2020 Acura MDX SUVs
- 2015-2020 Acura TLX cars
- 2018-2019 Odyssey minivans
- 2017 and 2019 Ridgeline pickup trucks
- 2016, 2018, and 2019 Pilot SUVs.
This error could result in premature wearing or seizing of the connecting rod bearing. If an engine seizes while the vehicle is being driven, this is very likely to result in a car or truck accident.
2023-2024 Honda Accord and 2023-2024 Honda HR-V Seat Belt Issues
The final issue also occurred in manufacturing. The front seat belt pretensioners in the affected vehicles were built with a missing rivet that prevents them from properly restraining the occupant in a collision. This is the one recall that isn’t likely to cause an accident. However, if you are involved in an accident in a vehicle that has this issue, you are more likely to suffer a serious and avoidable personal injury.
All three Honda recalls from November 2023 represent a serious threat to the health of occupants of the affected vehicles. If you or a loved one was seriously harmed due to a Honda product defect, contact the California law firm of Neale & Fhima APC at 949-661-1007 to discuss your legal options.
What to Do if Your Car Has Been Recalled
How to Keep You and Your Loved Ones Safe
The safest course of action if your car has been recalled is to follow the instructions provided with the recall. You can get those instructions and determine whether your car has been recalled by checking the Honda Recall Lookup web page. These instructions will typically direct you to contact either a Honda dealership or the manufacturer to receive correction for the defective product.
Since most recalls represent a defective product that puts you at risk, you shouldn’t drive the affected Honda until the problem has been corrected. If you drive the vehicle after becoming aware of the recall, the manufacturer will not be liable for any injuries you suffer due to the defect.
Liability shifts when you become aware of a recall. Don’t risk yourself or your loved ones by driving a recalled vehicle.
What to Do if You or a Loved One Was Injured by a Defective Honda
The reason defective vehicles are recalled is because these defects can potentially cause or worsen the consequences of an accident. The recall is intended to inform car owners of the danger and provide them with a cost-free option that removes the danger. However, recalls often are made years after the product is released to the market. This means you may be driving an unsafe vehicle for years. More importantly, it means that you or a loved one might be injured due to the defect that spurred the recall.
What can you do if this happens? The first thing you should do is contact a personal injury lawyer in California to discuss your legal options. If you were injured due to a defective product, you should be eligible to receive compensation for that injury. You may even be eligible for compensation if a recall was issued. Recalls protect the manufacturer from liability, but only after the owner has been advised of the danger or after the manufacturer has taken all reasonable efforts to contact the owner. This means there is a brief time after a recall is issued that the manufacturer continues to be liable, as long as you were never informed.
Experienced product defect lawyers can help you prove that you were unaware of the threat and that the defect was directly responsible for any harm you or a loved one suffered.
