2024 Ford Mustang Under Two Major Recall Notices

- Categories: Lemon Law by Vehicle Brand
As a general rule, if a vehicle has a defect, the manufacturer is responsible for any harm caused by that defect. This means, for example, that if you get into a car accident because your car has faulty brakes, anyone injured in the accident can sue the manufacturer for compensation for medical bills, car repairs, and other expenses resulting from the accident.
However, there is also a way for manufacturers to escape this liability. If a manufacturer discovers a defect, it can issue a recall. When a recall is issued, the manufacturer publicly reveals the defect and provides fair and cost-free ways for people affected by the issue to correct it or replace the defective vehicle. In rare circumstances, a manufacturer may even refund customers when other options aren’t available for correcting the defect. However, a recall works only if the customers are notified. To this end, manufacturers must make every reasonable effort to notify consumers about the danger they face if they continue to use their vehicles without getting the problem corrected.
Ford has recently issued two major recalls for the 2024 Ford Mustang. If you own a 2024 Ford Mustang and haven’t yet been notified, the following information will be important to you.
Under the California Lemon Law a manufacturer may be required to offer to replace your vehicle with another equivalent vehicle, refund you the money you paid into your vehicle and pay it off, or offer you cash compensation.
Rear Suspension Recall
The defect most likely to cause a car accident is the recall Ford issued for 4,595 Ford Mustangs. The rear suspension knuckles in these vehicles were all produced in a batch that had casting imperfections. Those imperfections weaken the part and can result in cracking. If the suspension knuckle cracks, the vehicle may become difficult or impossible to steer, potentially resulting in an accident. Ford has agreed to replace all affected parts or reimburse customers who have already gotten the damaged part replaced.
In several thousand 2024 Ford Mustangs, imperfections in rear suspension knuckles can cause the car to become difficult to steer.
Owners of potentially affected Ford Mustangs should have been notified in August 2024. But even if you didn’t get a notification, you may want to take your car to a dealership to ensure that your Mustang is safe. Dealerships have a complete record of the serial numbers of all affected parts. A local dealership can quickly check your vehicle and identify whether it was made with a part that was affected. Fortunately, this recall affects only a relatively low number of vehicles because the affected parts were made when an improperly fitted debris filter was used during the production process. This filter was used for parts fitted onto only a few thousand vehicles.

Instrument Panel Glitch
The other recall that was issued by the NHTSA and on the Ford recall website was for an instrument panel glitch. This glitch affects 6,212 Ford Mustangs that were produced with parts manufactured at the Flat Rock plant between May 10, 2024, and August 20, 2024. The defect in these parts is related to the instrument panel. The lights on the instrument panels of affected vehicles may not turn on when the vehicle is started or while the car is driving. This can prevent the driver from getting critical information like warning lights or speed figures.
So far, Ford reports that it is unaware of any injuries or incidents resulting from this defect. This is a pre-emptive recall to prevent harm to consumers. Owners of affected 2024 Ford Mustangs should receive notifications starting in mid-November. The first notifications did not go out until November 11, 2024, so you may not have been notified yet, even if your car is affected. Thankfully, the solution is relatively easy and involves only a software update. You will most likely need to contact your local dealership for a free update if your vehicle is one of the roughly 6,000 affected.
